Here is a PAIR of NIB Meissner 18-2950 Signal Splicer coils. I am not sure what these were used for. There is reference to a Meissner Effect when you Google this item. They may be from the very early days of television. Mostly, they are good 1.25" standard tubes style 4 pin base brown mottled bakelite coil forms. The existing coils shouldn't be too difficult to remove if you don't need it. I would think that they would be good for a simple, vintage era receiver or transmitter project.

 Description:

This is a National Panasonic R-8 jewel box 6 transistor radio. These radios are are cute! They were designed to look a lot like a fifties Hi-Fi console radio/record player. They have top compartment to put small jewelry or other items in. They were sort of a novelty radio with an actual use. Many were probably to be found on dressers and night stands while many probably, even in the early sixties when they were made went straight to the decorative items shelf.

This radio does work well and has no real flaws other than the most minor oif corrosion on one battery connection spring.

 Description:

Here is a very nice Truetone D2018 'Boomerang' Radio. This is a 'high style' radio from 1950 that is emblematic of the forward, modern look of the time with some nice holdovers from the deco era. This is a pretty big bakelite radio measuring 8"H x 15"W x 8"D.

This radio has no cracks or chips although its ivory does have several small chips and scratches. The factory paint job on these radios isn't great. This radio does work and was recapped sometime in the internet era as a repair shop tag that was on the radio when I got it came complete with an internet address! 8"H x 15"W x 8"D

 Description:

Here is an early 1950s era Hallicrafters 14 tube SX-100 ham communications receiver. This is an exceedingly well made and heavy unit. Even by todays sytandards, these are very good receivers. Many are still in use today. The coverage range is from 550 kc to 30 mc. A crystal calibrator is included internally.

This particular unit does operate electrically. An amazing number of old Hallicrafters radios do. That said, an explanation is in order: the sensitivity seems to be sort of OK but the volume is very low and there is noticable (although not overpowering) hum. Reception was heard on all bands and the dials work fine but ancillary functions such as the BFO, etc. weren't tested extensively. The unit should be restored electrically with new capacitors and some tubes too, I am sure but you have a lot to start with. Asthetically, it needs help. Painting the cabinet isn't real hard but the lower front panel which is aluminum with printing on it has lost much of the printed patterning. I honestly don't know how that will be restored to its original appearance. The knobs are good except for one that is missing its center metal trim insert.

For more general Hallicrafters info, see Halligan's Hallicrafters website, http://www.H allicrafters.net .

 Description:

Here is an RCA Radiola Superhetrodyne Portable AR-812. This radio, paired with an RCA UZ1320 horn speaker would have been all the rage as a Christmas gift in 1924 and made you a hit at the beach as it 'blasted' ragtime jazz music for very well covered 'flappers' and their guys! This was one of the first radios utilizing Major Armstrong's 'superhet' design. It is still the basic template design for pretty much all receivers today. Even your HDTV set is a 'superhet'!

Portable is a stretch for this 11.5"H x 35"W x 11.5"D radio and don't forget that the speaker was extra baggage. The 'A' and 'B' batteries fit into the compartments on each isde of the main radio. The 'C' battery fits in a compartment to the rear right of the radio chassis are. A wiring harness hooks everything together. The radio alone, less batteries and speaker, weighs in at 37 pounds. Still, this was the new technology of the day and it was quite a step forward at that. Unlike modern superhetrodyne receivers, this radio uses separate dials for the main RF and mixer tuning. Not too long after it was realized that these functions tracked each other well giving rise to one dial tuning with both functions 'ganged' together on one control. Just as now with the latest gadget, you might have been wise to wait for next years model but, then again, no beach parties for you in 1925!

This radio is in generally good shape. It does come with a full compliment of 6 untested UV-199 tubes (I believe that the are all UV-199s anyway). The main cabinet is in very good shape with a solid but crazed finish. The wood is in good shape. The front panel is in good shape with some edge chipping. Some of the front panel wood lamination was loose so I glued it, I think competently, so as to avoid further damage. The main front dials have some minor corrosio

This is a very neat old radio part that is new in its worn but still very attractive box. It is a Karas Orthometric TM Condenser. This a logaritmic variable capacitor that was designed to give 'EQUAL SEPARATION of every one of the 100 wavelengths between 200 and 600 meters'. Further, 'With Karas Orthometrics every point on your dial from 1-100 is a separate wavelength'. This condesnser is a beauty to look at with chrome plating, brass, and copper parts plus black bakelte insulator plates, and knurled nut waire attachments. This is a very nice piece of early radio history and, frankly, it wasn't a bad idea either!

 Description:

Here is an unusual item. It is a seemingly homemade portable microphone. It thought it was telephone related at forst and, indeed it may have been designed for some telephone test use. It uses an early telephone type carbon microphone that was doubtlessly used for other functions too in the early days. It has a switch to turn on the single 'D' cell battery power source that carbon microphones require and a Diatonik brand audio output transformer. The transformer is eclosed in a blck crinkle painted case and looks to be of high quality. The battery holder is the neatly cut off bottom of a now antique flashlite. Also in the case is cloth cord with pin type connectors that mate to the top of this unit. Whether this was used for telephone, public address, broadcasting, or perhaps was just used for radio 'party tricks' to put ones voice over a radio is a mystery. It is 8"H x 10"W x 3.5"D in size. The microphone element is marked '294W'. It would have worked for any of those applications. It is very nicely made!

Actual shipping costs are additional. There is NO 'handling fee'. This item may be returned for a period of seven days provided it is returned in the like condition that it was sent. I can in no way be responsible for uninsured items.

Motorola Model TC-100 Strato-Tuner UHF Converter

 Description:

Here is a sort of odd item, a Motorola model TC-100 'Strato-Tuner' UHF converter. This unit is a pretty early unit from the 1950s. Generally being a UHF TV station, even in a large market, was the kiss of death before the seventies, at least and it was no bowl of cherries even then. There were markets though whwere the FCC allocated ONLY UHF channels plus, occassionally, the unusual UHF station that people really wanted to see. Before 1964 TV sets came only with VHF tuners so, in those cases, you had to buy service installed internal adapters or, more commonly, you bought a set top converter such as this one. Much as with modern (and soon to be anciemt) DTV converters, you attached this unit to your antenna (there was no cable!) and the output fed your TV set on an open VHF channel.

This converter has a damaged antenna connection switch and is missing its 6AF4 UHF RF amplifier tube. It would be easy to repair it but, it serves no useful purpose today other than as a historic early TV collectible since the DTV switch last year. The appearance is good but far from perfect. It would be nice for any television collection though!

Actual shipping costs are additional. There is NO 'handling fee'. This item may be returned for a period of seven days provided it is returned in the like condition that it was sent. I can in no way be responsible for uninsured items.

 Description:

Here is a nice Spica ST-600 6 transistor radio with a very nice heavy leather case. This radio is in very nice shape except for a left side chip and repair. The chip isn't too noticable since the inner lip of the back mostly fills it in with the radio case's blue color, at least. This radio works well! This is another very nice, arguable deco, transistor radio that would be nice to compliment any radio collection!

Actual shipping costs are additional. There is NO 'handling fee'. This item may be returned for a period of seven days provided it is returned in the like condition that it was sent. I can in no way be responsible for uninsured items.
