Motorola Model TC-100 Strato-Tuner UHF Converter
Here is a sort of odd item, a Motorola model TC-100 'Strato-Tuner' UHF converter. This unit is a pretty early unit from the 1950s. Generally being a UHF TV station, even in a large market, was the kiss of death before the seventies, at least and it was no bowl of cherries even then. There were markets though whwere the FCC allocated ONLY UHF channels plus, occassionally, the unusual UHF station that people really wanted to see. Before 1964 TV sets came only with VHF tuners so, in those cases, you had to buy service installed internal adapters or, more commonly, you bought a set top converter such as this one. Much as with modern (and soon to be anciemt) DTV converters, you attached this unit to your antenna (there was no cable ) and the output fed your TV set on an open VHF channel. This converter has a damaged antenna connection switch and is missing its 6AF4 UHF RF amplifier tube. It would be easy to repair it but, it serves no useful purpose today other than as a historic early TV collectible since the DTV switch last year. The appearance is good but far from perfect. It would be nice for any television collection though Actual shipping costs are additional. There is NO 'handling fee'. This item may be returned for a period of seven days provided it is returned in the like condition that it was sent. I can in no way be responsible for uninsured items. |
